I've laughed a lot in life, cried, spent too much time in the sun, and even had a moment or two of hostility. That's life. Does my skin tell those stories? You bet! And I wouldn't change a moment.
You're never to young to get a jump start on healthy aging. I'm referencing 40 & beyond because, well, I'm in my late 40's now and my skin is really showing the signs of life. No longer can live in the shadow of my 20's and rely on basic maintenance to keep my skin looking healthy. I am now employed in the battle against time to hinder the aging process.
In our forties, and beyond, dry skin and excessive dehydration comes with the territory. This is because our skin cells are not replaced as quickly as when we were younger, and as a result can make our skin appear dull and uneven. The good news is there are steps we can take to help our skin.
Adding a humidifier to your home can add much needed moisture to the air, especially during these winter months. Drink plenty of water; at minimum 1/2 your body weight in ounces. Are you getting enough Omega 3's in your diet? One of the best dietary fats you can eat for healthy aging is Omega 3. High levels of Omega 3 have been shown to help the skin cells hold onto water, leading to moister, softer skin - and plumper skin cells mean a younger looking appearance. They are also very good at reducing inflammation.
What would be a healthy aging regimen be without a potent serum. My one-two punch is the Michele Corley Peptide Serum, that has a hyaluronic acid base. The hyaluronic acid is a humectant which binds moisture to the skin. What are peptides, you ask? Peptides send signals to our cells to let them know how to function. For example, peptides applied topically to the skin can send a signal to collagen to prompt the formation of new collagen, and voila, you have the appearance of more youthful, supple skin. Now let's talk about the past sun damage that it's finally surfacing. All those years in the sun, without sunscreen, or worse yet, with baby oil, (you know who you are). Melasma, sun damage, and post acne pigmentation are the most common types of irregular pigmentation. They are an accumulation of damage done to your skin over time from the sun, the environment, and hormonal imbalances. My preferred method of evening the skin tone is incorporating a retinol serum, a brightening exfoliation, a brightening serum, and of course, SPF.
What you do daily for your skin is just as important as your monthly facials. My two favorite heavy-hitters for adding hydration, reducing inflammation, and stimulating collagen & elastin are LED Light Therapy and Microcurrent.
